What is the Student Activity Fee?

The Student Activity Fee is a mandatory fee that every undergraduate student pays. For the 2016/2017 year, the fee is set at $91.00 and is subject to change from year to year. The monies from this fee are pooled together and are used to fund Student Activity Fee Organizations (SAFOs) and the Organization Resource Office (ORO).

What’s a SAFO?

“SAFO” is an acronym for a Student Activity Fee Organization. What sets SAFOs apart from other student organizations are that they have annual budgets funded by the Student Activity Fee, and SAFO Business Managers are required to attend regular Student Activity Fee Committee meetings. SAFOs are organizations that reach a large amount of the undergraduate student body, demonstrate exceptional fiscal and organizational responsibility, and have frequent and consistent programming that benefit from having standing budget. For the 2016/2017 year, there are 13 SAFOs:

DSC- Diversity Support Coalition

EDMC- Electronic Dance Music Community

Mask & Dagger Dramatic Society

MUSO- Memorial Union Student Organization

NHOC- New Hampshire Outing Club

OGC- Organic Gardening Club

SCOPE- Student Committee on Popular Entertainment

SEAC- Student Enviromental Action Coalition

Slow Food

Student Senate

TNH- The New Hampshire (student newspaper)

 WUNH- student radio station

 

Every SAFO is reassessed in the fall of the previous academic year through a series of concept and budget hearings. Any recognized student organization that has been in good standing for 5 or more years can apply for SAFO status during the Fall budget & concept meetings.

What is the Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC)?

SAFC is a subcommittee of the UNH Student Senate that serves as the governing body for the allocation of the Student Activity Fee. The Committee is made up of the SAFO business managers, 8 representaives from Student Senate, 7 members of the Student Body at Large, The Office of the student body president and the 5 member SAFC Executive Committee.

What does SAFC do?

It is the Student Activity Fee Committee’s responsibility to look at all concepts, budgets, proposals, and post programming reports with professional skepticism, and to consider the merits of the organization, the value of what is being proposed, and it’s appropriateness when deciding whether to approve or deny funding with student money. The Student Activity Fee is meant to fund activities on campus that maximize the benefits for all students paying the fee.

What is the student Organization Resource Office (ORO)?

The Organization Resource Office exists as a resource to any recognized student organization in obtaining information including, University policies, advertising, fundraising, financial forms, and much more! It also exists to assist student organizations request funding from the Student Activity Fee.
